A Portion of Turkey - Holiday Home Search Engine

By: Ricardo Trevellino

The Bodrum Peninsula has become a very popular holiday destination in recent years.
Why might this be? Well, perhaps its because the area has a little something for everyone. Whether your preference is for bustling towns with lots of night life or peaceful villages with beautiful hillsides and quiet, secluded beaches, you will find something to suit in this divine region of Turkey.
Just one such town is Yalikavak, a harbour town believed to date back to around 700 BC. Known for its horseshoe bay and its windmill, but more of that later!
However the locals have done a great job of welcoming the modern age and combining it with their origins, creating a charming and welcoming atmosphere, making it both visitor friendly whilst retaining its heritage.
When describing Yalikavak it is easy to use the word tranquillity and be confident that you are not being clichd as despite the words over use in travel media, it fits this town very aptly.
The weather in Yalikavak is suitably fantastic, just like the rest of the region, with one notable pleasant surprise. A breeze that is both refreshing in the heat of the day and welcome for the legion of water sports fans that flock to the area for this very reason, seems to be constantly caressing the town.
This breeze also helps to explain the windmills! Windmills are a feature of Yalikavak and on the seafront you will see a beautiful example of the aforementioned modern merging with history as a 300 year old windmill nestles quite comfortably in amongst the shops and eateries.
There are many trees In Yalikavak and they go some way to explaining the towns' translation into English which is 'poplars by the sea'. I say some way because strangely these trees dont happen to be poplars but the greenery is a perfect companion to the blue Aegean.
What about the beaches I hear you ask, after all I am sure most people would like at least a little beach time when they are on vacation. Preference may be for quiet secluded beaches, or slightly busier beaches or beaches where you can just sit and watch the locals go about their livelihoods, catching fish, as they have done for hundreds if not thousands of years. Yalikavak has them all!
If you are lucky enough to be in town on a Thursday you simply wont be able to resist the bazaar that arrives, the largest on the peninsula, peddling everything from exotic foods to Turkish carpets. It really is a feast for the senses!
Everybody has different accommodation preferences when going on holiday, some like to back pack, some like a hotel and other prefer a villa rental. Whichever is your preference, Yalikavak has something for all.
The Bodrum peninsula in Turkey is awaiting your arrival.
