Build Your Magnetic Energy Generator - How To Make A Home Made Power Plant

By: Eugene Smith.

Building your own generator or home made power plant is a great learning experience and a way to save on electricity. While this project can require some time and investment, you'll learn to become more self sufficient and improve your knowledge of a technology that daily life depends on.
A magnetic generator is an electromechanical device that creates an electric current from mechanical motion. A coil of tightly wrapped wires, surrounds a series of magnets that are free to rotate about an axis in the middle of the coil. In the presence of a changing magnetic field, called flux, an electromotive current is produced that can power electric devices. The type of current produced is Alternating Current and is the class found in any home outlet.
Some systems are available on the market that take the guess work out of creating the power generating system. These come with specific instructions, professional components and usually better end results. However, in the spirit of environmentalism, there is a lot to be said for recycling materials you already have to build the project you want.
The components are mounted on the plate within reasonable distance to each other with the axis of the mechanical drive side by side to the alternator axis. Around the pulley on the end of the alternator shaft, the belt wraps to connect the drive mechanism and turn the alternator axis. Once mounted in place, with proper belt tension, the batteries can be wired in series to the alternator.
All pieces are mounted onto the mounting bracket or plate. The pulley sits on the alternator shaft, around which the belt connects it to the mechanical drive that provides the motion to create the electricity. These are the very basics. In addition, the power will have to be fed to a battery bank, fuse box or simple cigarette lighter outlet. For these operations some knowledge of wiring is important.
Most electronic devices are designed to use AC power. A DC motor will probably be the most expensive part of the system. A DC motor would also necessitate an inverter to convert the DC power to usable AC. A standard automotive alternator is usually a more reasonable, readily available option, and will work fine for a home made power plant.
For the self starting and inventive person, to build your own magnetic energy generator can be an exciting goal. The reward being educational as well as monetary. This small step towards home self sufficiency is attainable for almost any one and should be considered a real possibility towards environmental sustainability with a decent payoff.
