Identifying Soil Requirement

Different type of soil is required for different shrubs and trees. Depending on the type of tree, you will have to accordingly decide the type of soils it needs. A flower bed would require that is deep up to at least 2 feet, especially when you are making a lawn. It needs to be broken down if it has formed lumps. Ash, cinders, along with some soils is first spread on the bottom. Along with this clipping of grass, compost, peat moss as well as manure needs to be worked in that is at the bottom, so that the quality of the soil improves.
Good top soil:
If you want to plant, then you will have to first of all ensure that the topmost layer is good enough for planting. An experienced gardener will tell you that if you add leaf mould, peat moss, humus, green manure, the quality will be fit enough for planting.
This may also require the addition of some sand, as well as wood ash as and when required.
The roots of the plants are delicate and tender and you should ensure that manure should not touch the roots of the plants that you have planted. A professional gardener can easily tell if it is good or not, or else there are testing kits available in the shops for testing soil. It is termed as acidic if it touches a pH scale of below seven. If it touches a scale of above seven then it is termed to be alkaline in nature. Some plants need acidic soils, and accordingly you can make available for those plants.
Going Organic:
Adding organic matter is always been a good idea. As compared to chemicals many gardeners would suggest that you use organic matter instead of chemicals to improve the quality. Alkalinity as well as the acidity of the soil is neutralized with the use of organic matter. Ground limestone can be used if you find that is more acidic. Add the ground limestone and let it remain so that it gets absorbed, after which will be ready for planting.
To increase the pH value you can add wood ash. Due to its powdery nature wood ash and it absorbs wood ash more easily.
